Information About Stoke On Trent

With such a wide variety of activities and attractions within the Stoke-on-Trent region you will be spoilt for choice for something to do. Regardless of your age or interests Stoke-on-Trent has something to offer.
The City is ideally placed in the Heart of England for a weekend away, a short break or a day out. Less than an hour from Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Nottingham. Stoke-on-Trent is less than 2 hours on the half hourly train service from London.
You will not believe what's here. We have monkeys, a skate plaza, ski centre, over 1300 hectares of parks and open spaces, a tropical acqua park and we are the nearest city to Alton Towers, the UK's premier theme park. Stoke-on-Trent is situated approximately half-way between Manchester and Birmingham[25] and the city adjoins the town and borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, which is administered separately and situated to the west. To the east is the Peak District, which includes part of the Staffordshire Moorlands District, as well as parts of Derbyshire, Greater Manchester and West and South Yorkshire.
Stoke-on-Trent is often known as "the city of five towns", because of the name given to it by local novelist Arnold Bennett. In his novels, Bennett used mostly recognisable aliases for five of the six towns (although he called Stoke "Knype"). However, Bennett said that he believed "Five Towns" was more euphonious than "Six Towns", so he omitted Fenton (now sometimes referred to as "the forgotten town").
